Tasting note:
Look: Dark ruby red
Nose: Attractive aromas of cherries and blueberries with a fine touch of vanilla
Palate: Intense berry fruit tastes, soft spices such as cinnamon and cloves. Long and dry finish
Additional information:
Considered “the Valpolicella of tomorrow”, this red wine is surprisingly intense and full-bodied with a good tannic content. Unexpectedly fruity, rich and approachable. The nose combines familiar Corvina aromas with the firm character of Oseleta, the forgotten native variety rediscovered by Masi.
The power and audacity of this wine is expressed in its name, Toar, which refers to the volcanic rocks of its vineyards of origin.
The Veneto region in general and Verona in particular, boast a singularly rich heritage of grape varieties. Over time, however, just three of these have played an important role in the production of the most typical of Valpolicella’s wines: Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara.
In recent years, however, a fourth variety has come to the fore: Oseleta. One of the oldest varieties in the Verona area, it was rediscovered by Masi in the 1980s. It has small, compact bunches and high polyphenol and tannin contents. Its addition to the blend gives wines extraordinary complexity, structure, colour, tannins and concentration.
