Tasting note:
This Malbec wine displays aromas of ripened red fruits, such as plums and cherries with mint notes. Very juicy with velvety tannins. Grassy in the middle palate with mineral character. Fresh and ample on the palate, smooth textured and an elegant personality.
Winery introduction:
Mascota Vineyards is a wine producer in the Mendoza region of Argentina. It produces red wines from Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and several other varieties, plus white wine from Chardonnay. The operation is a special project of Grupo Peñaflor and its winemaker Rodolfo Sadler.
The principal property is Finca La Mascota in Cruz de Piedra in the Maipû region. This is home to 97 hectares (240 acres) of vines planted on mainly alluvial clay-loam soil. Further vineyards are located in other subregions across Mendoza.
Gran Mascota comprises a Malbec and a Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from vineyards in the Uco Valley at 1,050 meters above sea level.
Process: Hand harvesting. Bunch selection. Destemming. Berry selection. Fermentation with wild yeasts and maceration in small concrete vats, during a minimum of 25 days at 25-27ºC. Natural malolactic fermentation. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Bottling ageing during 6 months.
